“Colors. Would it be green or blue today? Maybe white—my favorite. A dark voice in the back of my mind offered no color at all as an alternative. I smothered that voice. The days of no color were simply too hard to bear. I needed color today.”
~ Julie Hockley
Thank you Antigua, for providing exactly what this duo needed, after a rough start to the year.

For our last few days in Antigua, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Mesón del Valle. For a full review of the hotel, please click here.
Gorgeous!
Holy colours!! That’s amazing. WOW.
Thanks Charlie!
Colors are so important in our lives! I am so lucky to live in India, one of the most colorful countries of the world!
Amazing captures, very pretty 🙂

Arti, I can’t say enough how badly we want to come to India. I must agree that it looks like it is one of the most colorful places. Hopefully soon!
I love all the windows and doors. What a great place to wander around and just simply appreciate (with camera of course!).

that goes without saying 😉 It was easy to photograph this place, just not so easy picking which photos to use. We had so many colorful shots!
Beautiful! Can’t wait to get up to Central America and experience all those colours!
It was so refreshing to see so much color. Enjoy when you get up there 🙂
Looks delightful! We are heading there in June!
Nice! I hope you enjoy your time there as much as we did.
Love it! Especially the first photo for some reason I can’t quite put my finger on.
Really must go to Antigua!

Thanks Amanda. I love that first photo too. Too me it just looked like a virtual canvas and frame.
My favorite shots are those with a little foliage in them. Something refreshing, something promising in the smallest touch of foliage. It’s early spring here (yup, already) and I find myself mesmerized by the tiny new leaves. Thanks for bringing spring inside for me.

Thanks Maria and you’re welcome, glad we could bring a little spring to you 🙂
I know it’s theoretically possible to be sad and miserable anywhere in the world, but in practice, I think it’s a lot harder when you’re in a place as cheery and colorful as Antigua looks! I am sure there were plenty of reasons why we didn’t click with Beijing when we visited, but surely one of them must have been that I have never been anywhere else that is SO GREY!
Sorry to hear Steph that Beijing was so grey and it just didn’t click, that happens (for us it was London). But you are right that when you come to a place that is colorful, it’s difficult not to smile.
I can still remember, back in 2000, the first time I ever saw Antigua. Got off the bus, looked at the volcanoes, the colorful houses and the indigenous ladies and thought, I have to live here. So I did for two years. These colors are truly part of what drew me in! 🙂 Cool post.

Thanks Jess. I can very easily see how you spent 2 years here. It’s an easy, beautiful, kind and gentle place. And of course the color 🙂
Antigua is such a beautiful city, and your photos are gorgeous as always.
Cheers Emily, very appreciated.
I love this. It’s snowy again, and looking pretty grey outside today. I miss bright colours like these.
Glad we could help brighten the snowy day Alouise 🙂
I miss places with different coloured houses, Toronto is far too beige.
Agreed. Anywhere west of the Maritimes in Canada is far too beige.
I’ve been to Antigua twice and found it a bit underwhelming. That said, it is a lovely city to photograph!
I think I can understand why Kristin, and at first I felt the same. But you’re right, it’s an easy place to photograph.
People with another background might find it underwhelmed. For us guatemalans, Antigua will always be overwhelmed in beauty, atmosphere, history, natural and architectural sorroundings. And I know many people of different nationalities have the same opinion as I.
Hugo, I for one agree with you (even if my hubby doesn’t exactly). I loved loved loved Antigua, for all the reasons you mentioned. I wouldn’t hesitate to return and spend a good amount of time exploring that beautiful city even more.
Lovely! The picture with the boots as planters are my very favorite. 🙂
Those boots were in a tiny cafe we passed every morning, they always brought a smile to our face.
What sumptuous colours! You’ve brightened my day! We’re house sitting in New Zealand at the moment and have a had a bit of a grey day!
Thanks for the visual feast!
I love pretty doorways. One of my fav things to photograph. the more run down and paint-peely the better!

Great photos – I love colourful houses and doors.

Sort of teared up a little lol. I miss the sun-drenched color of Central America so much. Funny how you miss it the most during “rough patches.” Gorgeous!
When I was there it rained all the time…no color at all!
One of the prettiest towns I have ever been to.
I love these colors!
Im really digging the colors of Central America! We are in Mexico (is that classed as Central America??) and the colors here are amazing too. Ive got a new obsession for finding places full of color so Antigua is on the list!
